Holiday Packing – What's in your

Preparing to go on holiday can easily become a stressful affair when it comes to packing all your essentials. There are lots of bits and pieces you have to remember for a hot beach holiday – sun cream, passport, toiletries, beach towel, various pairs of shoes, sun glasses; the list is probably endless as we all have our own necessities when it comes to holiday packing.
British Airways recently completed a survey of 1176 adults to find out how the people of the UK prepare for their holidays. The results are very interesting and admittedly I’m guilty of a view of them. They found 1 in 5 respondents pack 10 or more pairs of underwear when going way for 7 days and also 1 in 8 people take 3 towels or more for the same period of time. Imagine how much space you could save in your luggage by purchasing a cheap towel when you reach your destination?
The most interesting results to come out of this survey were related to baggage weight. 23% of people didn’t check their baggage weight with the worst offenders being in Scotland and East of England as they pay the most for excess baggage. With Airline luggage allowances getting tighter and tighter when it comes to the size and the weight of your bags, only a few grams over is likely to spell a hefty cost, so it’s vital you start with a light weight suitcase that doesn’t eat into your allowance.
There’s one set of dimensions that everybody hates, 55cm x 40cm x 20cm. Yes, that’s right, the size that you are permitted to take as a carry-on bag on a Ryanair flight. Now that you have booked, you realise you need a new bag or suitcase to take on board with you, because you have to put everything, including the kitchen sink inside. Your handbag, briefcase, laptop, shop purchases, camera etc must all be carried in your one permitted piece of cabin luggage. It’s almost impossible to get everything in one bag of this size for a whole week!
Getting back to the British Airways survey results, they also found that lots of us Brits like to take familiar fair along with us. Topping the list of favourite items to pack include tea bags and kettles. As well as tea it seems UK travellers like to know they’ll have familiar foods whilst abroad. High on the food packing list were; tomatoes, tinned fish, peanut butter, instant noodles, good old Marmite and even a vegetable peeler. All vital I’m sure you’ll agree. This important cargo will be ultra safe taken in a new piece of Tumi Luggage.
